We are ending our wellness month with some tips on how to stay healthy and well in the workplace. Wellness just isn’t physical health. We should be focusing on the entire wellbeing of our employees. That means in all areas such as physical, emotional, financial, and social wellness. Any kind of stress can have a negative effect on our health. Let’s get to sharing these practical tips you and your employees can use to keep healthy and well every day.
Be sure to have employees physically step away from their desks during lunch. Lunchtime is a great time to go for a walk, rest and reset the mind, get outside and take a break from the daily tasks. Not only does this improve physical health it also will help improve the mental wellbeing of the individual.
Be sure that employees are drinking plenty of water throughout the day. It’s so easy to forget to drink water when you are working at a desk and not physically active. Even though you are not physically active your body is still losing water. It’s important for your health to stay hydrated throughout the day. The good goal is to shoot for half your body weight in ounces of water.
Stretching and taking small breaks. It’s very easy to get a sore back or stiff muscles from poor posture throughout the day. Having employees take a moment to stretch throughout the day and a break from sitting will help their muscles remain active throughout the workday.
Ensuring that your HR department educates its employees on all the health benefits available to them. HR departments can send their employees directly to the Fair Health Consumer site where employees can gain a wealth of knowledge to know which benefits are right for them.
Employers can also share these free resources with all employees to help them improve their overall wellness in the workplace.
